Temporary Residence Permit

The Verblijfsvergunning Regulier voor Bepaalde Tijd (VRB) is your temporary residence permit.

Duration: Usually 1-5 years depending on purpose

Requirements:

• Valid passport

• Proof of sufficient income

• Health insurance

• Housing registration

Common purposes:

• Work (including highly skilled migrant)

• Study

• Family reunification

• Startup entrepreneur

EU Blue Card

Special permit for highly qualified non-EU professionals.

Requirements:

• Higher education qualification (at least 3 years)

• Work contract or binding job offer

• Minimum salary threshold: €5,867 per month (2023)

• Path to permanent residence

Registration Process

Step 1: BSN (Citizen Service Number)

Your BSN is essential for everything from opening a bank account to receiving healthcare.

Where to get it: Local municipality (gemeente)

Required documents:

• Valid ID/Passport

• Rental contract or house deed

• Birth certificate (apostilled)

• Residence permit (if applicable)

Timeline: Immediate upon registration

Step 2: DigiD

Digital identity for government services and healthcare.
